Linda Jouridine Alexander is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Health Behavior at the University of Kentucky's College of Public Health. She brings a wealth of experience in education, multicultural health, and counseling psychology to her current role as the Academic Dean of the College. Her career spans almost twenty years as an educator, teacher, and scholar.

Dr. Alexander received her Doctorate in Education from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in 1985. In 1987 she joined the Social Psychology and Behavioral Medicine Research Group at the University of Houston and participated in developing smoking inoculation techniques through school-based curriculum for a diverse population of middle and high school students. Much of this work led to her decision to pursue a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology at Howard University Cancer Center in Washington, DC. Since that time she has enjoyed numerous consulting and research assignments through her career in academia. In 1999 Linda combined her passion for public health education with her belief in community-based research when she joined the USDA's Cooperative Extension Service at Texas A&M University as a State Extension Health Specialist. That background and expertise brought her to the University of Kentucky in 2002 to serve in a unique capacity as a Project Coordinator for a Rural-Based health project, with a joint appointment in the Colleges of Agriculture and Public Health.

Linda has a reputation as a bridge builder and rain maker. Her career highlights include facilitating an international research meeting between African and African American scientists studying hypertension in Zimbabwe, West Africa, serving as the Director of Minority Health Research Laboratory at the University of Maryland where she mentored several students who have since established successful careers in public health, and being invited to participate in the Tobacco and Health Disparities Research Network.
